Blog Carnival or No Blog Carnival, that is the question [poll]

I’m sure you have noticed that there is no Working at Home on the Internet Blog Carnival again this week.

For some reason, the BlogCarnival.com site has been down for two weeks and I’m ready to look for an alternative way of presenting our Blog Carnival that is a bit more reliable.

What I need to know from you, is if it would be worth my effort in trying to find a better way to present the Blog Carnival, or do you think I should even bother.

Is the Wikileaks Fiasco Affecting Your Business? [a poll]

I don’t know about you, but I’m getting a little bit scared about using online payments for conducting most of my business dealings.

Even though I have some very strong feelings personally about the Wikileaks fiasco, I worry more and more about Julian Assuage’s friends and how they are attacking the Online Financial institutions in some perverted attempt to defend his “freedom of speech”.

Since I use Paypal, Visa and MasterCard as a way to get paid for my services online, they are affecting my business in a big way… AND I’m MAD and very apprehensive that these people can hurt my business without any thought of how it affects my family.

I don’t think I’m alone in it affecting my business, so I ask you if it is affecting the way you are doing business online since this whole fiasco started.

Sorry for that little tirade in the beginning, but when this political bull hurts me and mine, I get really upset.

Windows is Losing Ground in the OS Battle

Last weeks poll, Are You a MAC or PC or Linux, seems fairly conclusive. Although the response was on the light side, the results were 50% are PC’s, 25% MAC and 25% are Linux based (PC’s).

Compare that with the survey I had taken on LinkedIn the week before: 25 PC, 21 MAC and 20 Linux (or combo of the other two) out of 66 respondents, which breaks down to approximately 1/3 for each of the different systems.

As I mentioned in a previous post about a poll that I had taken over a year ago, PC’s (Windows) had 90% of the market and everything else came in the bottom 10%, there was no accounting for combinations of Operating Systems or Linux users.

The only thing that could be possibly be read into the results of these polls, is that Windows (PC’s) is losing ground in the battle of the Operation Systems.

Although, it seems that there is no real way to have a poll and have the “definitive” answer. I guess it depends on the venue in which the question is asked, the way you phrase the question, what answers are provided as a response and WHEN the poll is taken.

My thanks to all who participated in the various polls and I wish I had a better answer than “Windows is Losing Ground in the OS Battle”.

Are You a Mac or a PC (or Linux)?

A couple of years ago, when I did some research and checked out all my online stats (I may have even conducted a poll, I don’t remember), I found that most (around 90%) of people were using some type of Windows based PC for their online work.

What I found recently, was that a lot of my customers seemed to be either using MAC’s or considering changing to get away from all things Windows. (I blame Vista for that, I almost switched myself!) So I wanted to do a little more research on this to see what system most people were using NOW.

Last week I conducted an impromptu poll over on LinkedIn. Actually, I just asked a simple question. Are you a MAC or a PC? Much to my suprise, the answers varied more than you might think.

Out of 66 responses: There were the MAC Fans 21 and the staunch PCers at 25. Then there was a great mix of Linux, MAC & PC users who, for whatever reason, either needed or wanted access to both or all three system. They accounted for the remaining 20.

Hence this Poll in an effort to clarify the question of Are you a MAC or a PC or a Linux user.

Is It Time to Kickstart the Featured Home Business Page? [poll]

Let’s take a little trip in the Way Back Machine to January 2007.

That’s when we started the Featured Home Business Page on WAHI. There were quite a few small business owners that took advantage of the (limited) exposure to their endeavours to highlight their business and let people know what they were all about.

That was a little over three years ago and although it never really ended, there has not been anyone else added since September 2008. I think it may be time to remedy that, but I’ll leave it up to you.
