It’s Official…
Today is the start of the Blog vs Website Writing Project

Concept…
The idea is simple, to help Business people determine the Advantages or Disadvantages of using a Blog or a Website (or a combination of both) to enhance their businesses on the Internet. It can be about your experiences, successes and/or failures using either type of web presence, or even your opinion on the good vs evil of each as a way to reach potential or existing customers.
It’s pretty open, whatever has worked for you, you think could work for others, barriers you have encountered. Whatever, as long as it involves Business and a Blog v Website theme.
Rules…
The rules are pretty simple as well.
The post Must be Original. Written by you or someone involved with your business.
The article must have been written no earlier than the pre-announcement (6/25).
Submission links must be submitted through my contact form subject:contest.
No purely self-promotional posts, please. This is to try to help others in their Home Business endeavours.
Linkbacks/trackbacks are optional.
The Prize…

Although this little series started as a two parter, Blog versus Website, things have changed a bit since the original posts were published.
There is a Third alternative now (well, it’s been around for a little while) and that is a Combination of Both using a single CMS (Content Management System).
WordPress has an option for using either a Static “Home Page” as you would expect from a normal static Website or having your Most Recent Post as your landing page. Either option is chosen with a single click and remains dynamic with frequent updates to the Blog portion of the site.
In my opinion, this is the best of both worlds for either a Business Site or a personal Blog.
Advantages:
~~ Static Landing Page for a Business to utilize as a main launch in any direction for various products and services you offer.
~~ No limit to pages you can use for showing off your wares, including using pictures, captions and new fangled things like video/pod casts to enhance your presentation.
~~ Using various Tags and Categories to enhance SEO for search engines, as well as frequently updated content that SE’s thrive on.
~~ You can allow feedback through comments to get immediate thoughts from your (potential) customers to see if something is working or if you need to make some changes before you invest too deeply in the product.
~~ You have a Blog. A way to talk about what is going on in the company, test the waters for something you are thinking about doing in the business, Communicate with your customers.
Disadvantages:
~~ None. As far as I can tell this is, as I mentioned earlier, the best of both worlds. You can change directions almost seamlessly if you so desire.
~~ Don’t make the same mistake I did and Start a Blog separately from the main Website. Once that is done, it is extremely difficult to merge them into one site.
When a client asks me whether they should start a Website or a Blog, I suggest they start Both at the same time, test the waters and see what works best for them and the vision they have for their business. I point them in the direction of an adaptable CMS like WordPress where the options are only limited by their imagination and they make the final decision on what best serves them.
Do you have any other suggestions for a good CMS? Other Advantages/Disadvantages you can think of? Please share.

I’ve been pondering for a couple of days about what SOBCon 08 meant to me and what I could share with you about the experience of being among Professional and Amature Bloggers and how that could relate to Business.
All of the presenters were quite informative and full of information that could be used in a Home Business, Online or Offline. But, the One Thing that they all shared and every one of the participants was full of is…
PASSION for What They Do!
Saturday was basically for the nuts and bolts of how to use Blogging as a Tool to enhance your business. Still the Passion of people like Wendy Piersall (and all the rest) came through in the way they talked and how they shared Their experiences to try to help the rest of us! (Wendy actually inspired Brian Clark of CopyBlogger to write a post about how he ended up where he is today)
The same Passion came through at the get togethers both before and after the Main Event. Although lots of great information was shooting in all directions, My biggest take-away was some of the casual conversation that had nothing to do with Business.
These People are Passionate about their Businesses, their Families, their Cities, their Pet Projects. They are Real people, just like you and me and they Love what they Do. If you had a question, they had an answer. If they didn’t have the answer, they would help you find the answer. It’s almost like we always knew each other, friends helping friends and sharing because that’s what friends do.
So, I’d like to introduce you to My Friends…
This post was going to be more about Networking and how that would relate to building a Small Business, but PASSION for what you do is At Least as Important. And if you have the Passion for Your Business, Networking will come naturally.
Do you have the Passion to make Your Business a Success?
(Before you ask, Yes I Did use Liz’s list)
