$300 Business Privilege Tax for Blogging in Philly

If you haven’t heard yet, Blogging in Philadelphia is a Taxable Offence. As of now, if you make any money from writing a Blog (even the pennies from Adsense) you need to purchase a $300 Business Privilege License if you live in Philadelphia. Not to mention the Business Tax, Income Tax, and Gross Receipts Taxes.

The real problem is that there is No Minimum Income cutoff, so even the smallest of Blogs (including Hobby Blogs) has to pay the BPT. Even if they don’t make enough to cover Hosting fees, it still applies.

Here is a PDF of the City of Philadelphia Business Privilege Tax Regulations to help you get a handle on how the City of Brotherly Love justifies their dipping into your already shrinking pockets.

Check out Sections 102(6) for their way of making sure Bloggers are included. Section 103 (especially B Nexus Standards) is one that should have other Bloggers in the area, even those not living within the City limits, do a double take on how the BPT may affect them.

Section 310 Persons Engaged in Professions or Vocations or in Rendering Personal Services is a definition of how Bloggers are included in the mix of why the City thinks Bloggers should pay the BPT.

Don’t think you can get away by just closing down your Blog or moving out of town, either. You still have to pay the piper. That is covered in Section 104, they will Tax you on a percentage of the time you did Blog in the City.

A Sneak Peek of the Baby Boomers US Forum/Blog

As I mentioned in the Weekend Wrap-up Video this past week, I have been working on getting the Baby Boomers Forum/Blog ready to launch in the near future.

I have the Blog under the Maintainence plugin, but I can give you a sneak peek at the Forum if you’d like.

As I said, neither is done, (I haven’t even started on the individual forum/posts yet) but I wanted to give you an idea of what look I am aiming for.

WAHI Weekend Wrap-up XXV

Over last weekend, I came up with the idea to start a Forum & Blog to discuss all things Baby Boomer related. I wanted babyboomers.com but as you would guess it was already taken. The .com was taken by a website that is just there with some pages, no activity. .org was just being sat upon by GoDaddy as was .net.

I found the same sitters (GD) on babyboomersus.com & .org but .net was open. So I bought it.
The plan is to set up a site that is both informative (the blog) and a place for us Baby Boomers to discuss whatever interests the group.

I ran it past quite a few friends and they all thought it was a great idea so I decided to go for it.

I have complimentary templates for both and am just starting to get things set up on the back end the way I think will work.

Now, I have to come up with discussion topics for the forum and some posts for the blog & get ready for the big opening day. I just have no idea yet how long this isgoing to take.

I’m aiming for August 1st. This should give me time enough to work out all the kinks and get some writing done that will at least picque peoples interest.

What do you think? Good idea? Are you game to join in?
