I want to first address the computer issue I was having last week. Joe only had to work for 30 minutes to get it running again. HE IS THE BEST! He used Crossloop – a way for him to see my screen and actually work on it. It works great! Thanks Joe for your work!
I now want to move on to volunteering. It’s something that we all may want to do. Whether it is volunteering at school a few times per year or volunteering every week at another organization – volunteering with your busy schedule can be a challenge.
I will not pretend to have this under control. I do not. I am just starting to figure out more of what I want to do.
So this is what I know:
• Choose carefully. Find that organization, church, school, whatever – that best suits you. Something that tears at your heart strings. Then you know it is worthwhile.
• Don’t go crazy. Don’t volunteer for everything. Try one thing, see how it goes and then add more OR change. Remember – volunteering iis not permanent.
• Know how to say no. Understand what works in your busy schedule. Realize that right now volunteering might not be for you.
That’s my advice so far.
Do you like to volunteer for anything? How do you fit that in?

Hey Brooke,
I love this article! Volunteering can be a difficult time to commit time to, especially if you’re not sure that it’s right for you. Have you started to volunteer, or are you thinking about it? I work for an online service called VolunteerMatch (www.volunteermatch.org), and one popular ‘type’ of volunteering is “virtual volunteering” — work that can be done from anywhere. These opportunities are particularly appealing to people who are very busy in their work and personal life — and it sounds like that’s you!
You can do pretty much anything, from offering up your talents as a web-designer, to preparing care packages for the sick, to tutoring a child online — the possibilities are endless, and what’s more, you can complete them in your pajamas.
Seems like something like this would be a good stepping stone for you to find what it is you’d like to do and figure out if it’s something worth pursuing on a more in depth level. Feel free to contact me with any questions. I’d love to talk with you more about this!
Best,
Victoria
You can, in some instances, volunteer with your kids. For some inspiration, check out this video — ahamoment.com/pg/moments/view/4578 — about one mom’s “aha moment” experienced while volunteering at a soup kitchen with her young son. They’re both special people.
Thanks,
