Make Sure That You Schedule Your Time.

clock3When you work at home and your kids are at home with you, you can be pulled in a million directions and not have just 5 minutes to focus.

But you need some time – what’s the best way to get it?

Schedule-Schedule-Schedule

It’s very important to know each week what needs to get done and what you want to get done. Your needs and wants may be two different lists and you must separate them. Once you have determined your needs and wants, you can see where you need to allocate your time during the week.

clock2Do you need to be at the computer at home?
Do you need to be at meetings?
Do you to need to drop something off or pick something up?
You need to take the kids to the park.
You have to make dinner.
etc.

Sit down on Friday night or the weekend sometime and break down what time that you need during the week to get those important things done. After you do that, look at the time you have left and start separating that out. Make sure that you take time for yourself, get the chores completed, and spend quality time with your family. These are things that I have discussed in previous articles and are very important to your daily life.

clock1Juggling all of this is just like managing money – except you are managing time. Take a look at the time that you have in a week. Subtract the time you need for sleep (be very realistic) and then go from there. It would be nice to work as much as you need. But when you have so many other things that you have to pay attention to (mainly kids) you have to be realistic about what you can and cannot do.

You have to have a schedule – or things just get dropped. It is so easy to say “I am not going to do that filing right now because it is nice out and I want to go outside.” But what happens if you don’t get it done right now? Maybe it’s not an emergency – but maybe it will screw up the rest of your week if that does not get done right now.

It’s difficult to juggle work, kids, activities, school, church, chores, volunteer jobs, friends, family, your significant other – ohh – and of course yourself! (I am tired just from writing it!) But you need to become a master at juggling – or better yet – scheduling. Then you don’t have any questions about what needs to be done.

How do you juggle everything in your life? Do you like schedules, routines, or do you just take it one day at a time?
