As a work from home Mom, I have found that success is dependent on making sure I set aside some time to take care of my needs as well as those of my family and business. This is true for all moms; part time working moms, full time working moms, and full time moms. You really need to take time for yourself. Do what makes you feel good and relaxed and you’ll be a better mom, and provider. Some ideas are:
Massage
Pedicure and manicure
Exercising
Hanging out with friends
Talking on the phone
Reading
Knitting
The list goes on and on…
Make sure that you spend at least 15 minutes per day doing something for just you – without kids. Work can consume you. Your family and child raising responsibilities can easily consume you. So, are you adequately taking care of yourself? It is easy to get lost in everything that is going on in your life and your kid’s lives. You are working so hard to balance everything that you don’t realize that it’s not balance that you have to worry about – it is being in the moment. If you are working – be focused. If you are with your family – participate and love them. If you find a few moments by yourself – nurture YOU.
It is hard for a lot of moms to say to themselves…but you come first. You have to take care of yourself and make yourself happy. You will not be any good for anyone if you do not take care of yourself first.
I exercise a few times a week, I read, I blog, I go out with my friends…I am good at taking care of myself. My kids are happier, my husband gets more attention and my business thrives all because I am taking time for me!

Excellent points, Brooke!
You could add “bowling” to your self-care list, too.
Keep up the tips….and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
True Cindy! Bowling is a great relaxer for me!
Brooke – Great ideas. 15 minutes is NOT enough! I’d up that to at LEAST 30 minutes a day. I find that an iPod or iPhone is a great way to de-stress during those down-time periods. Listening to music, a podcast or favorite audio book can be a great relaxer.
Thanks for commenting Brian. I am sure that works for many. Me – I need quiet. Just driving in the car without the radio on can be a great relaxer.
keep the ideas coming!
Brooke, this is such a great post and so important. I try to get some reading in every night to calm myself down and get work and the kids out of my head before I go to sleep! I think today everyone is so busy, it’s easy to forget that you need to wind down once in a while.
