The Long Tail Can Show You What’s Important (and still thriving)

Where was my mind?  THINKER.jpg

Something pretty important has basically drifted from my consciousness. Luckily, there really is a such thing as a Long Tail on the Internet. Sometimes we have to be reminded of what has worked both for the Blog, and more importantly, the Readers ’round here.

I got this in my e-mail this morning

Dear Joe, I ran across your website and read that you do daily promotions of people working from home. I understand that you require an article. However, you mentioned “January” as if it were yesterday, and therefore I wanted to verify this was still applicable. If so, please let me know. I am a graphic
designer (web/flash) who just started freelancing from home in Israel (American born and raised). What subject would you recommend I address that would be most helpful?
Thank you in advance for your time.

(Name withheld pending permission)

Actually, the “January” mentioned in the e-mail was January 2007. That’s 19 months ago. (Talk about a Long Tail!) But, it really has been WAY too long since I have had any Featured Home Business posts to give some additional exposure to our Favorite Work at Home friends.

In many ways long tail searches can be very beneficial, but it can still be pretty weird when you get a response like the one you did from almost 2 years ago.

I think it is cool that you are offering this opportunity. I might have to take you up on it when I get some more time.

      Hey Charlie,
Yeah, it’s a little strange that I am still getting responses from that long ago, but Very much appreciated.
You are more than welcome to submit something for the Featured Home Business page. It’s about time I revived it.

I found you through a blog carnival page. It says August 8, 2008 which wasn’t that long ago.

I did smile reading your post. I wrote an article about 10 years ago. I still get emails today from those new to parenting (it was a parenting article). Sometimes we do get a lot of mileage from one effort.

      Hey Audrey,
It really is amazing how long that long tail really is. They do say to be aware of what you write today, your grandkids may read it to their children. ;-)

      Welcome...

I appreciate you taking the time to visit, and hope you enjoy your stay. Look around, there are a lot of interesting posts for you to read and information for you to take with you.
