Notice the OLD Logo for WordPress?
There is a reason for that.
I wish WordPress would stop messing around with things that work just fine. Sure, I understand the need to fix Security Issues and maybe improve the usability to a degree. Maybe even make it look a little more “Web 2.0ish”.
Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t like WP 2.5 or 2.5.1.
I installed 2.5 on my Freeware Finds Blog as a test, Hated It…
I installed 2.5.1 on our personal family Blog, Hated It…
Not going to install Here OR the Business Blog, I’ll wait to see what the Next Version looks like…
I’m not going to give you a lot of screenshots and give you my impression about What I Hate about the two versions because I don’t want to influence your decision, there are plenty of other reviews out there to check out for that.
But, I did want to ask you Your Opinion about the latest WordPress Versions.

I actually like it a lot better especially from an end user perspective. I like the fact it puts more of the admin features in the background and another big plus is the updating procedures. The default admin color scheme leaves much to be desired and I don’t like how the tags feature is on the bottom of the article entry as opposed to the right side. I definitely think they are going in a good direction.
All that being said we have been using Wordpress as a backend in the past for client web sites but as of a few months ago we are making a transition to and specializing in Drupal because of greater functionality and we can also make the admin more seamless with the user interface of the site.
I’m still using Wordpress on a limited # of projects and even my own personal blog. It will be interesting to see what Wordpress 3 brings as the web site/blog front ends and backend admin functions could be more seamless and less jolting.

Hey Patrick,
I agree that WP is going in the right direction, but they make the write/edit page more difficult to work with. I doubt any of them write often enough to see what a pain some of the ‘new’ setup causes. I hope they make it in V3.
Haven’t worked with Dupral enogh to have an opinion, but you can be sure I’ll be checking a bit more now.

I’m a big fan but having only used the previous versions for a number of weeks before updating to 2.5.x I’m more familiar with the new interface anyway. I think the text widget editor should be more powerful as standard, a lite version of the post writing gui perhaps?
Input by John Peden | May 29, 2008 @ 6:24 pm
Hey John,
Maybe it’s because I used the previous versions for so long that the new admin pages are harder to deal with for me. I’ve installed the 2.5+ for some clients and they love it!
I just think the older v’s were easier to use, but that’s just me.

yeah, the admin interface is horrible now. Nothing is where it should be. I’ve been looking for a good plugin to rearrange it all, but no luck yet.

Hey Ed,
As far as I know there is no such plugin. Judy over at Persistent Illusion wrote a hack you can download that may help a little on the ‘write” page. I couldn’t get it to work right, maybe you can.

I’m not sure yet.
There’s parts that are better, but the whole dashboard is cr*p. You have to click through twice to get to a list of published posts, which used to be displayed on the dashboard in 2.3…
I’m hoping they’ll give us the option to go with a “classic dashboard” sometime soon.
Input by Jane @ Kidzarama | June 1, 2008 @ 5:51 am
Hey Jane,
I agree that there should be an option to use the OLD Dashboard. You can change to the old color scheme, but not the actual Dashboard. I’ll wait til they fix that and some other things I don’t like before I change my Main Blogs.

I like the changes to WP enough that Habari has become my platform of choice. Shards is the only site I have left on WP, and that only because I need the podcasting support WP has.

Hey Rick,
It seems the anti-WP changes is growing, especially from those of us who used and are used to earlier versions. The only one’s who seem to like it at all are the newbies to the service.
May be time for a change around here if they don’t at least give the option of using previous Dashboard etcetera.

I really like word press and frequently recommend it to new web site start-ups. Unfortunately, I had so many complications with my last upgrade that I have not taken the step to upgrade again. Fear!
Input by Deb Bixler | June 10, 2008 @ 9:33 am
Hey Deb,
That’s why I haven’t upgraded here, not fear, but too many complications and just an overall dislike of the new backend design.
