Last month I took a poll about whether I should start a Job Board here to try to help people who were looking for a Work at Home situation. The response was not what I expected, but I launched the Working at Home Job Board on my gut feeling that it would helpful to some of my readers.
Good Intentions
I launched the Job Board on April 2 without much fanfare and with almost no potential employers thinking more would sign up once word got around. I started out using a WordPress version of the RecruitPress template. I chose it mainly because it was adaptable, I was already familiar with the WordPress setup and I was able to use my theme to keep everything looking alike on the site (my ego at work).
The Disappointment
Well, that didn’t work out too well. I got plenty of people registering as employers, but almost all of them were bogus offers and spammers who never followed through with the goods. I ended up having to delete almost everyone of them. I was almost to the point of giving up, but still felt that the Job Board was the right thing to do. Especially when I started getting e-mails from potential employees, wannabe work at homers and telecommuters looking for that ideal situation for a home business.
Suggestion of a Friend
After rethinking a suggestion Liz Strauss gave me a while ago, I decided to give Simply Hired a try. The reason I hadn’t tried it before had more to do with my ego than anything else. I lost track of why I wanted to set it up in the first place, to help any readers that were looking and not finding work at home opportunities anywhere else.
Happy Ending
I signed up with Simply Hired yesterday and by last night there were plenty of reputable employers posting positions on the site. Although the Job Board isn’t as pretty (in my eyes at least) as the rest of the site, THERE BE JOBS THERE. And that was the whole point from the beginning.
Please check it out and let me know if there are other types of positions you think should be added.
