There has been a debate for quite some time about whether to use Full Feeds (like I do here) or partial feeds to entice readers to the Blog page to see the whole post. I don’t really want to join the debate per se, everyone should handle their RSS Subscriptions as they see fit, but I wanted to explain why I Unsubscribed to The Blog Herald.
- The main reason for me is I like Full Feeds. It saves me time when I go through my Feed Reader and can just read what the author has written without having to click through, wait for the page to load, and try to pick up where I left off in the reader. I realize that a publication such as the Blog Herald has multiple posts on any given day and some of them can be quite long, but most are short enough to better serve the reader in it’s entirety in RSS.
- Another, possibly more important reason, is that now the little snippets don’t even have the author of the post listed so I can get a feel if I even want to read further. Not to mention Credit for the Post. I have a good idea of the individual writers style, knowledge of the subject and the worth of clicking through. Frankly, I subscribe to most of their individual blogs because I like their style and the way they present information and how much they care about their own readers.
Don’t get me wrong, I still think The Blog Herald is a very good resource for Bloggers and I will stop by the Blog when I have the time, but I think this is just another mistake that has been allowed since Duncan Riley sold it a couple of years ago.
Opinions are welcome as always. How do you feel about this newest faux pas by the Editors of TBH?
