Six Reasons I’m Using Skype for Business

Ok, I did it!

The other day I asked you guys if Skype might be worth using as a Business Tool. I didn’t get too many replies (only one from Chris Cree who only uses the IM feature at the moment) so, I made a decision based on my gut instinct.

I downloaded Skype... My Skype: joe.hauckes

I think it could be useful because:

  1. The basic service is free.
  2. Many online business people use it.
  3. For a small fee, I can add Skype to phone capability.
  4. It gives another dimension to communicating with customers.
  5. I can use Skype for conference calls.
  6. Video (web) calls could prove useful.

These are a few of the reasons I opted to get the Skype basic service. I can always upgrade if I find that my instincts are correct, that this could be very useful in my Computer Consulting Business.

Are there any other benefits of Skpye I missed? Are there any reasons I shouldn’t use the service?

Call me, joe.hauckes, on Skype any reasonable time (est).

    1. Hi Joe!

Was on the lookout for something else actually when I came across your post about Skype. I signed up at one point for it, and put it down to stupidity, but I found it confusing to use. I think it was the “phone number” that threw me lol!

Question… is it me? Did you find it easy to set up and link up? I’d really like to know :)

    2. Hey Theresa,
Actually, I thought it was quite easy to set up using their setup guide. I just followed instructions and tested the mic and that was it. Maybe you tried it in the early stages before they really knew what they were doing. ;-) Joking, but it is pretty easy to set up, it takes a lot more to find people you know that use Skype, you have to know their exact signin to make sure it’s the right person.

    3. Hi Joe,
You know, I used to have skype and I finally uninstalled it.
I mainly used my skype for instant messaging. I have a satellite connection and voip does not alway work well for me.

The reason I uninstalled skype is because I started getting some nasty viruses from it. The virus I got was brand new and none of the anti virus protection companies were catching it. This virus duplicated my list and sent the virus to everyone on my skype.

Skype can be a good resource for you but be very very careful of the messages you participate in.

    4. Hey Kathleen,
So far so good on the virus thing. I don’t use groups on Skpye, just calls and IM (on occasion) but I try not going into an unknown group. If I don’t know and trust everyone in a conference call, I won’t participate.
      Thanks for your imput.
