Google Can Go Suck An Egg

questionmark.jpg

I really wasn’t going to write anything about the Google god, and the Almighty Page Rank that they hold over the heads of Bloggers trying to supplement their income with advertising.

BUT…

For some reason The Great and Powerful Google has decided to Lower my Page Rank from a 5 to a 4. Why? Who knows. From all the information I can come by, it has something to do with Links.

Everyone who has ever been here knows that I link to just about anyone or anything that has something to do with Working at Home, the Internet, Business Tips or just about anything I think would help my readers Succeed in their Business endeavours.

Could it be that I have Text Link Ads in the sidebar?

If that is the case, Too Bad Google… I make more than 3 times the money with Text Link Ads than I do with Google AdSense. TLA also pays Every Month, without having to wait 3 months after hitting your minimum payout, like AdSense does. There is no way that I am taking those ads (which are plainly under a heading of Affiliate/Advertising Programs) down. I would rather take down the AdSense Ads!

Personally, I think that Google is trying to drive TLA and other Link Advertisers Out Of Business to eliminate the competition. I could be wrong, but that would be a mistake in my opinion. The better way would be for Google to Improve their AdSense Payout System. Make it more timely and less cumbersome. And May the Best Man Win.

Frankly, I am beginning to care less about Google and the Page Ranking System they control. I am going to try to continue to provide valuable information to my readers and let the Chips Fall Where They May.

This has been coming up more and more in what I have been reading lately and it can really be an issue if you are in an industry that has a lot of competition, especially if you are small and competing with bigger companies locally. My company does web development and web design work in the Greenville,SC market but we also offer print and portable media services as well. I made a point to name my company what I did because you can rely on search results alone and even if you are able to get in the top listings of a search engine you are restricting yourself in a big way. We actually get most of our customers from one on one networking and creative business, note cards and brochures help out in that area. We also are making some interesting connections and getting leads through social networks, etc. While Google is popular you have to ask yourself if you are working for Google or yourself. Even if the keyword, content and link combination you are using helps get you a high ranking others may be using totally different search terms. Yes, my company is well aware of SEO and provides that service for our clients but the most important thing is to develop a site for readers and viewers who can digest the content and not spiders. Yes, help the spiders find you but remember who your audience is and where they are.

      Hey Patrick,
I looked over your site, it looks like you have a good handle on what your readers want and/or need. I think that makes your last statement even more important, It’s About the Readers, not page rank. It’s nice for the ego, but it doesn’t seem to help or hinder the search itself.

Yes, just because my company does web development most of my customers and site visitors I feel and not interested in the intricacies of php, mysql, css, etc. They are interested in getting the word out about their business, organization or personal venture. The one thing is struggle with his how to make a business blog valuable to the business person without coming across as too business-like if you get what I mean. I do want to put a little more of “me” when I can without sounding like I’m “talking about myself.”

Yea, I went from 4 to three. Got to hate when that happens. But on the flip side I have seen some really groovy blogs get PR 5 in the updates.
I’m sure it will come back at some point in time.

      Hey Adam,
I am not happy about losing ground, what with all the time (over 2 years) into the blog that I have. Oh, Well… You gotta keep on truckin’ huh?
Maybe next time, I’ll skip up to a 6. ;-)

Pagerank has become a damned if you do, damned if you dont in the world of IM. Google had good intentions when they created the system, but they unleashed a monster that they are trying to control now. Many people are just concerned with page rank and not focused on anything else. It does feel good however seeing that little green bar light up….we all are in the trap
