It was such a nice day yesterday, I just couldn’t bring myself to sit in front of a computer screen and write, so I took myself outside and put pen to paper. If you ever wondered where I come up with some of the things I write come from…
This is a little peek into the mind of Joe Hauckes (unedited and directly from the note pad):
<h3)When Working at Home gets OldThe inner workings of Joe’s Mind</h3>I have 2 ^main Blogs (Ok, I won’t count the one’s that just exist)-One just startin out + the other is pretty well established.
Maintaining the two is getting more and more difficult.-I have run into a brick wall!
There really is plenty of things to write about on Both. As a matter of fact on the MCBS Blog, I have the posts that are in the pre-Draft stage(Ideas) and are important enough in their own right that I should jut follow thru an Write them.
The problem is that I just Don’t feel like it. I don’t know it it’s the changing Season or being couped up in the house all day or what. I just can’t seem to be able to sit down in front of the computer and write.
Usually, I’ll just sit outside, think for a while and be able to put pen to paper + do it the old Fashioned way.
Is it just Bordome? Am I tired of doing the same thing Day in + Day out for 2 years?
I’m actually starting to make a little money with the Writing, so it’s not (or doesn’t seem to be) cash.
_____________
I think it really started when I started the MCBS Blog.-Iwas looking for ways to monitize it and realized… “This is Not what I do”
Although, I like writing, it is not my forte, it is not really what I have professed being good at. I love solving problems. I love fixing things, I love being able to sit back and pat myself on the back when something works well after I worked on it.
(All)(Most)Part)of the reason For starting MCBS was to grow my consulting business.-I don’t profess to be able to write code or programming. But If it’s Broke, I can fix it. It is what I enjoy Doing. Writing about it is only secondary. More like trying to be a sales person trying to let people know what I can do to help them with their ^computer problems.
I actually make more money from things like Adsense + TLA than I do consulting.
That’s not the way it should be, I like the extra income, but that’s what it should be, extra.
Losing Focus of the Main objective of a business and going in too many directions instead of concentrating on what’s important, can be fatal to a home based entrepreneur (especially ir it is not what you WANT to be doing).
However, we can’t forget where our successes came from, writing has been a big part of what I have done for a long time. I just need to focus more on what I really (^want) need to do.
Forget about having a Gum Disease that warrented having most of my teeth pulled, taking up considerable time and money. Going thru the discomfort of having falsies put in and the associated pain.
Forget about not being to walk more than 1/2 a block without a cane, not being able to take the long walks to clear my head like I used to.
Forget about feeling sorry for myself.
—–> I gotta get out more.
There is so much I can do with the assets (think expertise) that I do have, There are quite a few people I could help with some of ther computer, internet, etc problems.
I just haven’t been able to reach them yet or at least not effectively.
Now, I ask you, how would you make a viable post out of that mess? I doubt that it will go any further than this, but, it was fun sharing a little of the process.

Getting out does help me, Joe. One of the reasons I’m not a home based entrepeneur is becase I’ve found I need the physical interaction with other people.
It sounds like you have the pieces in place of what you want to do and not do – MCBS as you main focus with the MCBS blog as a marketing tool for it. Do you do local marketing for the business?
Bloging is not easy task if you take it seriously. Writing and manage to blogs make your task more difficult.
Hey Rick,
I try to get out as much as possible, but it doesn’t always work out that way. I am on the phone a good bit, so at least I’m talking to people. And don’t forget K. has her Hair Salon in the Basement, so there is always someone around, luckily my office is on the second floor.
As far as marketing, most of it is word of mouth and some networking at some of the Blogging type conventions. No MSM advertizing at all, but I do have some small ads online.
Hey Coach,
I actually have 5 blogs and a Webpage. Most of them are more of a write something when I get around to it type setup. The 2 Main Blogs are what I pay attention to, they are the business (along with the webpage).
Lots of work, but usually worth the effort.
Hi Joe,
Are you sure this is from the shadows of *your* mind?
It looks suspiciously as if you’ve been lurking in mine
Good to know I’m not the only one who feels like this from time to time.
Hey RayD,
It’s nice to know others are lurking in the shadows like me sometimes too.
I have an interesting poll going up tomorrow, stop by and join in, it would be nice to see what other shadows we can bring to light.
