Your Opinion Needed… Should I Import Posts On MCBS?

Over a year ago, I moved the Working at Home on the Internet Blog from Blogger to the WordPress platform. When I did that, I already had built a small loyal readership. I had a few (around 20) RSS subscribers and when I changed the URL on FeedBurner, I think that most of them didn’t even notice or didn’t care as long as the feed was still active.

I think I took a little hit on Page Rank if memory serves correctly, but with a PR 2-3 it didnt matter much. There were a lot of duplicate posts since I imported all previous content to the new platform. All in all it was the right move, even though I still get some hits and referrals from the old Blogger Blog.

Here’s the Dilemma…

As  most of you probably know, I started the My Computer Back in Service Blog as a platform for my computer consulting business. What most of you probably Don’t Know is that I have had the Joe’s Freeware Finds Blog since April 2006. It contains between 80-90 posts (if you can call them that, most are links to useful programs with a short description), but a lot of them could be useful to readers of the New Blog.

Search Engine Traffic is almost non-existant, but I do have around 20 RSS Subscribers that have remained pretty loyal since the beginning.

Your Opinion Needed…

  • Should I import all the old posts from Freeware Finds and just close the old subdomain to save space on the server?
  • Should I import the old posts as a separate page on the new Blog?
  • Should I keep the Freeware Finds Blog, just not add anything and use a referral link to the new Blog?
  • Should I just close the old Blog and just forget about it and put a forward on the URL to MCBS?
  • Any other Suggestions?

This is not a poll, this is an honest question for the people whose opinion I trust most, YOU. Please either respond in comments, or you can always send me an e-mail.

Thanks,

Joe

    1. I think it depends on what your plans on the Freeware idea are. If you want to continue posting about freeware on MCBS, it makes sense to transfer the posts. I also think you should keep te FF blog for now, with an explanation and a link. If traffic nears zero in the future, that would be a good time to abandon and forward.

It also depends a bit on what your FF readers expect, I guess. Hope this helps.

    2. Hey RayD,
The plan for FF is to just let it go for now, leave it live but not add anything new. I will do some freware posts on MCBS, but not to the extent of FF, but they will be more review type posts.
      Thanks for your thoughts.

    3. You could keep FF, give it a makeover and fix up some of the articles, removing those that reference old or non-existent freeware. Perhaps monetise it with some affiliate links to the software.

I wouldn’t close it. At the least I’d probably look at on-selling.

Sorry to use this form, but your blog returns a blank page with a big FULL written on it :)

      Hi Joe,

I think a make over would only be a temporary solution. So I’d suggest two possible approaches: either import it, but as a separate page (or by creating it’s very own label or category) if you plan to stop adding new content; or review it, remove obsolete content and invite other bloggers to contribute articles on the blog’s topic (so when you actually want to start focusing on it, you won’t have a dead blog to deal with).

      Hope this helps :)

    5. Hey Stropp,
      Hey Alina,
Making FF over is an option I didn’t really consider, it is something to think about. I may still want to do something with it in the future. For right now, I’ll just let it stay where it is temporarily, Fix the broken links and keep thinking about it. ;-)
