What’s Your Opinion on My New Business Card Design?

Some of you might remember me saying in yesterday’s post that one of my regrets while attending SOBCon was Not Having Business Cards.

Well, I spent a good bit of time designing something I may or may not use. That just depends on what I end up liking. I did provide a link on Open Comments Night over at Liz’s House to one of the preliminary designs, however, that was just the First of many variations.

Take a look at the Latest and tell me what you think…

The Name was suggested in a conversation Liz Strauss and I had a few weeks before SOBCon. I am not really sure if that will be the permanent Business Name or not, but it Does describe what I do, put your Computer Back in Service.

The Logo Has to Stay, it was designed for me long, long ago in a Galaxy far, far away by my Son B.J. when he was about 8 years old for a very different business. The Background color may change, but the Logo itself will not (notice the “C” looks like a horseshoe? B.J. said it was for Luck).

If you would like to print a copy for yourself in lieu of an actual card, please feel free.

Do you like? Any suggestions? Ideas?

Hey Joe. I love the logo. That’s not an issue, but I wanted to say that it’s fantastic and most definitely should stay. No offense to Liz, but, if I was wearing sox, they’d have stayed up when I read the name. How about something like “Computer Works”? “Computers Served”? “Computers Be Me”?

      Hey Carolyn,
That’s the problem, coming up with something that fits MCBS. It’s all part of the logo, hence, I need to work on the name.
Not too much of a problem, I’m doing the cards myself, but I should settle on something… :-)

      Hey GP,
I really want to stick to the letters in the logo. It’s not as easy as it sounds, huh?

Thanks to both of you for your imput, I do appreciate it.

      Hey, Joe.

Good to finally meet you last week. That was a great time had by all.

My designer eye is perusing your card and, since you asked, I’ll give you my impressions.

First thing’s first: My eyes go to the blue bar when I glance at it or squint my eyes. They should go to either the logo or one of the names (company or yours) when you see a card.

To correct that, either make the logo pop more or subdue the bar by lowering the saturation.

Second, and lastly: I always pay special attention to the fonts and line breaks. It is a good idea to use 2 styles, but of the same face family. You can vary the styles with italics, bold, size, color or the font itself. Having the orphan ‘Service’ is distracting, but I agree with Liz that it’s a good name for what you do.

I wish you the best in more tweaking, and feel free to gchat me up on petersen.jesse if you want to pass drafts back and forth.

      Hey Jesse,
It was reall nice to finally meet you as well, hope to do it again without waiting a whole year.

Firstly, the Blue Bar only happened by accident, I had originally had a blue background behind the company name. I hated that, but thought the bar would break up the card. Apparently, it’s a little much. ;-)

I did try to stay with the same font (using size and bold to differentiate) but I’m still not happy with the way it looks overall.

I’m thinking of shrinking the logo to 1/2 size on the left and taking the bar out. Then putting the email and url across the bottom, full length of the card.

Oh, well, still a lot to work on before I actually print them for use. :-)

Thanks for your insight, expect me to contact you for more. ;-)

I’d experiment with a sans font instead of serif.

      Jesse,
It seems we were typing at the same time, talk about timing. :-)

I don’t know yet, but I think the background color should come out of the logo, get rid of the bar (at least tone it down) and change the font.

      Thanks again.
