Readers Choice: Help Pick My New Logo

 romansenate.jpg

If you have been here more than once, you know I value my readers (friends) opinions. When I was trying to decide which picture to use for my About Page, I asked my community of readers to choose from the (limited) pics I had available for online use. I showed the choices in a post and went with the popular opinion.

When I first decided to use a Logo, I went through the same process and went with the highest vote on the options I presented. Again they were limited in scope and were just variations of the same theme.

I have thought about changing the Logo for Working at Home on the Internet for quite a while.

laurelseal.gif The Old Logo never really seemed to fit the Work at HOME on the Internet Niche I try to present. To that end, I am asking you once again for your opinion and feedback in choosing a NEW LOGO and (if I can figure out how to use a different background) HEADER.

These are the possibilities I have narrowed it down to:

1. Logo

and Header

2. Logo

and Header

3. Logo

smallseal.gif

No Header, only a variation of the Logo. Leave the Header alone.

Bear in mind, the Logo will have to be compatible as a Favicon (that little icon in the address bar) so will need to be visible and recognizable in a reduced format.

There will be a Poll in the Sidebar until Friday (at the bottom) for you to give me your Feedback, or if you prefer, just leave a comment to voice your opinion. Either way, I would really like to hear from you to help me in this decision. (That includes all you RSS Subscribers too.)

Also, if you don’t like the choices and can come up with more options, Please let me know.

Addendum:

Lara Kulpa from Anubis Marketing has done just that, she came up with her own design for my Logo.

Lara, Thank You, I think this one is a WINNER. This will be the Logo You see when you visit, from Favicon to Header.

A Nod and a Wink to Sandy Renshaw for pointing me to CoolText Graphics Generator.

    1. The third logo! But I think it’d look more descriptive of the site if it included a computer. :)

    2. I’d definitely choose the third logo.

I’ve seen the second, I remember using the website that produced it a couple of years ago. It just doesn’t have the look of a working at home theme.

      Input by Ripley | March 20, 2007 @ 6:54 am

    3. I actually used the second one (except with my sites name) about 5 years ago in some kind of auto generating thing on a web site. The first one looks kind of cool but is a bit too busy and really doesn’t communicate anything. The third one is too complicated for a logo and is too hard to read. You need find a fairly simple vector shape that communicates all your priciples i.e. working, home, internet (the first thing that popped into my mind was a smiley face inside a basic house shape over a circle representing the world/Internet.

    4. Hey Alfa and Ripley,
      That’s 2 for #3
I like that one too, but I have yet to figure out how to get a computer superimposed. I’m still working on that.
      Thanks for your input.
      Joe

    5. Hey Patrick,
I actually like all 3 but can’t make up my mind. Each has it’s good points and detractions, that’s why I’m asking for help in trying to make a decision. ;-)
I really want simple and clean describing the site at a glance. That’s not as easy as it sounds.
THis may take more time than I thought, but it should be worth it in the end.
      Thanks.
      Joe

    6. The 3rd one wins in my opinion. Here are some thoughts on it:
I agree that adding a computer to it would be great.

The yellow is too bright in my opinion - more of a mustard would be good.

I think that the gray could be brightened - it seems very drab to me.

    7. Hey Brooke,
That Logo came from one of the predetermined templates from says-it.com
I think I’ll try to overlay a globe instead of the circle and change the text.
OR, find a computer to overlay for the house and change the text.
Mabe even delete the text all together. ;-)
You are all being so helpful.
      Thanks.
      Joe

    8. I really like the simplicity of it…that’s why it’s been hard to come up with an idea of how to add a computer.

Regardinng the text - can you make it stretch to fit the whole dark gray section?

      Input by Brooke | March 20, 2007 @ 9:35 am

    9. Brooke,
It seems most everyone likes #3. I have to find a way to add and subtract features offline somehow.
I’m not very good at using some of the editing programs I have. Now might be a good time to learn though. ;-)

I think I’ll work on some of those suggestions on #3 since it is the leader so far.

      Input by Joe | March 20, 2007 @ 9:49 am

    10. If you could do the following on #3 it would help;

1.) Increase the font and maybe change it to something thicker and sans serif

2.) Instead of the grays use black and white

3.) change the cog color to blue

4.) where did the house part of the logo come from? It’s the same thing as the “Equal Housing Lender” logo. I know because I have done some signage for a local bank and they have required that logo on their signs.

      Input by Patrick | March 20, 2007 @ 10:30 am

    11. Hey Patrick,
The =house came from the logo maker I used. I would like to replace the = with a computer screen of some sort.
If I use the world background then I get rid of the “cogs” entirely and the background circle would be replace with a sectioned (minutes/degrees type) earth.
If everything I want to do works, the only thing left in the #3 logo will be the house and color and possibly some text as you suggested earlier: Work,Home,Internet.

I’m really glad I asked for everyone’s help, I want something that will represent the site and all of these suggestions are leading me in the right direction.

    12. Hmmm… well in hopes that you really meant it when you said you appreciated my candor… personally I don’t like any of them - they look like they were made with generic online tools and such…

I’d be happy to whip something up for ya, Joe… por gratis, of course!

    14. Hey Lara,
      I got your email… Thanks.
I will put your design up very soon and let people see what you came up with. (I already decided to go with it :-) )
      Now for Implimentation!!! ;-)

    15. I like your choice and the design. The shape is both growth focused and a ver minimal design that still communicates a home. I also like how you slightly alter the design for each intended purpose yet still retain the design itself.

      Input by Patrick | March 20, 2007 @ 8:55 pm

    16. Thanks Patrick - that’s exactly what I was going for with it. :) Simplicity, focus, and cross-compatibility. :)

I’m so glad you like it Joe!! :)

    17. That’s a very nice logo. It was excellent of Lara to do that for you. I’m adding Anubis Marketing to my blogroll. :-)

    18. Hey Lara,
You Know how much I Like it… :-)
      @Partick, Lara does know what she’s doing with a Website/Blog doesn’t she. ;-)
Thanks all for your input on this project. All very good hints and tips.

    19. Hey Ripley,
Yeah, I like it too. And you couldn’t do better than to add Laura to your blogroll, good move.

    20. Yes, I’m glad she could help you. I would have offered to do more myself yesterday but my schedule was crazy but glad I could help out in the way I could. I’m bookmarking/subscribing to her site as reference and networking of like-minded workers.

      Input by Patrick | March 21, 2007 @ 8:43 am

    21. Patrick,
Thanks for the help. As I told Ripley, good move adding Lara to your bookmarks.
I’ve subscribed to her Blog for I don’t even know how long. ;-)

    22. Awhhh thanks everyone!! :D I’m beaming!
I’ve “known” Joe for quite some time now, and for everything he does for other work-at-home people, I just felt that he deserved to have something really nice.
