nGen Works… Helping When it Counts

I don’t know where to start. These guys are Great.

As most people in the U.S. are aware there were some Tornadoes that tore up a big chunk of Florida last week. Lots of devastation and people in need.

About a year ago, these techies developed the Virtual Warehouse application for the Volunteer Florida Foundation, probably more for Hurricanes, but really to assist in any Natural Disaster that occurs in the state.

Well, last week, their Virtual Warehouse was called upon to act. They had the site up and running within 24 hours (take that FEMA) to allow donors to donate goods and relief workers to help people most in need with What they Needed.

Even though the catastrophe didn’t affect me personally, I would like to thank the guys at nGen for thinking ahead and setting up a very useful, helpful and most likely lifesaving application.

The Guys: Bruce Cooke, Carl Smith, Joey Marchy, Travis Schmeisser and Varick Rosete

You can read Joey’s article on the nGen Blog, In The Garage.

If you would like to help the people of Central Florida, Please contact Central Florida Tornado Help to make a Donation or Volunteer.

Update: Carl advised me that there are 6 areas of Florida that are covered by the Volunteer Florida Foundation and can be found at http://www.neighborstotherescue.org/. There are links there for the different areas that use the Virtual Warehouse to help disaster victims.

      Thanks for the kind words.

We were stoked we could make it happen, and the virtual warehouse is humming along in Central Florida.

It’s one of 6 virtual warehouses we’ve gotten up in the last year and we’re hoping to have at least another 6 live before the next hurricane season hits.

You can see all of the current locations at http://www.neighborstotherescue.org/

The credit for this program and it’s success goes to Suzanne Yack and the Volunteer Florida Foundation. They have been training school teachers in Central Florida on how to administrate the warehouses.

Thank you so much for picking up the story and making people aware that there is a way to help.

      Hey Carl,

I didn’t know anything about it until I read Joey’s article. I’ll update the post to include the neighbors.org link.

My little sis used to live in Ft Lauderdale, that’s probably why it hit home. So, if there is any way for me to help you spread the word of your good work, let me know.

Thanks, and keep up the good work.

      Joe
