Is is just me? I seem to be having a really bad week for statistics services.

For some strange reason StatCounter has stopped counting as of 10:08 this morning (this was written on Wednesday night). Until then, I never had any major problems with their service. Usually, Wednesday is a pretty good day for visits and pageviews. Today, it stopped at 30 visits and that was it.

I have had issues with SC counting my own pageviews when it goes over 5-600 pv’s, but then I just reset the Blocking Cookie and everything is back to normal. Not today.

I tried clearing the Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, History, and Webforms from the Browser History. Still nothing. I checked and double checked my Web Server and everything seems to be working just fine there.

I  do use Crazy Egg to track where people are clicking on my page, and that seems to be Ok. It is counting the views and clicks as always. I also have SiteMeter (as a double check on pv’s) and it seems to be tracking visitors and all the other stats just fine.

The only thing I did out of the ordinary today was add 2 plugins. Simple Tags, which just adds Technorati Tags to posts and FD FeedBurner WP Plugin which converts all RSS feeds from the Blog to be read by FeedBurner. I added them to both this Blog and my Freeware Finds Blog. But That was AFTER 2 PM, four hours after I started having problems with stats. (I didn’t notice the problems until much later when I was doing reports.)

I even tried deactivating the plugins on one blog and leaving them on the other so see if that was causing the problem. Still No Stats on StatCounter on Either Blog.

The only thing left to try is to uninstall the StatCounter code and reinstall it in the template of each WP Blog that I maintain. That will be a real pain, but if it works…

Has anyone else run into a problem with StatCounter recently? How did you resolve it?

Update: As of this morning (Thursday) SC does seem to be tracking visitors again. Maybe they were just changing servers or something without telling anyone? Some stats are still missing, but as long as it’s working again I won’t complain.

    1. StatCounter was having trouble with one of their database partitions for a lot of yesterday. When you go into statcounter, there is a link at the top to go to their forums. They usually at least mention their outages in there even if they aren’t really willing to discuss what the problems are.

    2. Hey Mike,

Thanks, I rarely go to their forum, that’s probably how I missed it.
You would think they would be a little more upfront if they are having problems, you know, users first. ;-)
Oh well, they seem to be Ok now.
      Thanks,
      Joe
