As the Featured Home Business of the Week, I would like to present… Jesse Skinner, Freelance Web Developer.

I have known Jesse for about a year through the Internet Community. I have followed his Blog The Future of the Web since I first read it. Actually, I don’t know if Jesse started reading my blog first or I started reading his, but I know that I learned a lot from his expertise in Web Development. He even helped me tweak my Webpage when I first launched it eons ago and it looks better than it ever after utilizing his suggestions.

I would like to give you an excerpt from his About page for a little of his background in Web Development:

I’ve been working professionally as a web developer since April 2000. I started working at cgk Technologies while finishing my degree and stayed there until a year after graduation. I was the Lead Product Developer of Hot Banana, a Web Content Management System that was recently aquired for .9 million. While in Berlin, I worked for Strato AG as a web developer on their Web Content Management System LivePages. In September, 2006, I started freelancing fulltime.

I think he is well on his way to becoming a huge success in the field as a freelancer. So, let me formally introduce, Jesse Skinner, Freelance Web Developer

skinner.jpg My name is Jesse Skinner, and I’m a Freelance Web Developer. I do a wide variety of work all relating to web sites. I’ve been working on web sites since 1995, and it’s become a passion in my life. If you already have a web site that you’d like to improve, or if you have an idea for a new web site and would like some help getting it built, then I can help.

Here are some of the things I can help you with:

JavaScript and Ajax

Ajax includes things like Drag-and-drop, displaying search results without loading a new page, and anything else that makes a web page interactive. If you’ve seen GMail or Google Maps then you know what I’m talking about. JavaScript is gaining popularity thanks to Ajax, and many sites are taking advantage of JavaScript to improve the usability of their sites. If you’re curious about Ajax, but not sure how it can help improve your site, drop me a line and I’ll suggest some ways to make improvements.

Web Standards, Accessibility, XHTML and CSS

Accessibility is about building a web site so that it can be accessed by the widest variety of people. This includes people with vision difficulties, people using mobile devices, people who are colour blind, people who can’t use a mouse, and many others. In the past, web sites have been built with messy HTML and bad practices like using images for text that have made things very difficult for some visitors. By following Web Standards and using technologies like CSS and Semantic XHTML, accessibility can be greatly improved. I can take a look at your web site and make suggestions on what could be improved.

Search Engine Optimization

Sometimes it feels like you need to have psychic abilities to figure out how a search engine like Google picks its top ten results. Surprisingly, the same techniques that make a web site accessible will also make it perform well on search engines like Google. I can take a quick look at your web site and make suggestions that will help improve your search results, and often improve your site’s accessibility at the same time.

Databases and Server-side Development

Most of my time is actually spent building web applications on the server side using technologies like Ruby on Rails, PHP and MySQL. Web Applications are becoming quite popular, and many people are realising that it is quite affordable to start an online business that can generate some income. I’ve worked on projects like online video, email subscriptions, search engines, blogs, and so on. The possibilities are really endless. If you have an idea for a site, even if you think it might be crazy, drop me a line and I’ll help you figure out what’s involved.

This mostly covers the kinds of things I do on a daily basis, but like I said, I do a wide variety of things on the web. I also help integrate things like blogs, wikis, PayPal shopping carts, and so on. If it has to do with the web, then I can either help you with it, or I can help you find someone that can get the job done properly and cost effectively.

I know from personal experience what Jesse Skinner, Freelance Web Developer can do, and if you have the need, he would be the one I recommend you call.

And in case you are wondering, there are no strings attached. No unauthorized advertisements, linking, e-mail, spamming or anything underhanded at all. None of these Endorsements are Paid.
