Next to be a Featured Home Business in this endeavour is Anubis Marketing.

This is an excerpt of the Mission Statement from the About page of Anubis Marketing.

Anubis Marketing seeks to absorb the time and energy required to design, optimize, and market web sites for our clients with our services. We will provide our clients with Internet success based on our knowledge and experience, and guide them to optimum results regardless of their company’s size or budget. We are not to simply be considered “just another service provider” on the list of people who get paid - we are allies for our clients and their successes.

Lara did such a good job in presenting her promotional page, I will let her take over from here. So, here’s Lara…

larapic.jpg Anubis Marketing is a Full Service Web Development and Internet Marketing Firm, founded by Lara Kulpa. Lara has over 10 years experience in web design, and over 5 years working in Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Internet  Marketing.

Lara’s clients range from individuals (authors, models, etc.) to full size corporations. If you have a website, or are thinking about starting one, there’s something you need - and Anubis is the place to find it. Full scale websites powered by Content Management Systems (CMS), redesigns of existing sites, on-site consulting, speaking engagements, and personal or business blogs - you name it and she has done it, and gotten amazing results for her clients.

Between her work with other high quality SEO firms and with her own company, Lara’s achieved top 10 results in the search engines time and again, with natural (sometimes referred to as “organic”) listings, without the use of pay-per-click (PPC) advertising! (This is an additional service Lara offers, however she states that it’s important to know the difference between paid listings and natural ones.)

Lara shares a few things to think about when you’re considering what to do next with your online presence:

1. Right now, make the firm commitment in your head to ignore any “too good to be true” offers you see. If someone (or some thing) tells you that they can get you 1000 (or whatever explosively large number) backlinks to your site for $99 (or whatever “cheap” price they think up) - you need to understand right away that you’d be better off handing that money to a homeless person and walking away. At least you’d wind up feeling good about it for a little while.

2. Have a budget, and don’t be afraid to share it with the company you’re checking out. Don’t say, “Well, we’re looking for the best deal we can get.” or “I’m on a tight budget.” or even, “As long as it’s reasonable…” - these things don’t tell them at ALL where your project’s can go. Just like you’d set an advertising budgeted for newspaper or radio ads - set one for your website. Designers and SEOs run businesses too, so we know the value of a dollar, and it’s much easier to develop a plan of action when we know how much you plan to spend. Give a range if you need to, but keep it a tight one, and know that a good company will work with that budget to get you the absolute best you can afford. If you can only afford a Honda Civic, they’re not going to try to charge you for a Rolls Royce! But if they don’t know what you can afford, they don’t know what to propose to you. Adjustments can always be made later on.

3. Ask the company to provide you with references. Testimonials (if they’re not currently posted on the company website), or maybe some of their clients who are willing to talk to people about their experiences. Note: Not all companies will do this, and it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re a bad company, but it can’t hurt to ask.

4. Explore all the services they provide. Companies that claim to only focus on one or two things in an effort to provide more focused service, might not be what you need. Taking a poorly built website from a different company to an SEO is one of the biggest pet peeves in the industry, and if the site you had built isn’t search engine friendly, understand that your SEO might need to do some rebuilding or redesigning. If you’ve already spent a load of cash on a design, and your SEO tells you they can’t work with it as it sits, understand that it’s not a trick to get more money out of you - it’s pure honesty. Your best bet is to find a company that provides everything - that way their departments can talk to each other and ensure the best results for you in the long run.

5. With all the advantages the internet has to offer in terms of learning, just about anyone (yes, even you!) can read a few dozen tutorials or blogs and claim to know everything they need to know to do the job. The truth is that it takes years of learning and practice - every day - to do what quality designers, SEOs, and marketers can do. Don’t rely on your brother’s girlfriend’s sister’s son to handle your online business just because he built a fan site for his favorite computer game, or is taking college courses. The industry changes and morphs every minute of every day… and what colleges are teaching these days usually don’t adapt as rapidly as you’d think.

6. Last, but not least, learn how to be a good client. Have all your information (documents, current images, awards and recognitions, etc.) ready before you sign on to the project. Make yourself available, just like you expect the firm to be available for you. Once you’ve gotten to the point where you’ve signed a contract, that should mean that you trust the company to do what they need to do the right way, so don’t micromanage every step of the project - but be involved. The more feedback you provide them when they ask you for it, the easier their job is going to be in making your money work for you.

    1. Thanks again, Joe!
      One thing, the link to the blog is broken… it’s apparantly showing my URL as an add on to the end of yours.

      Other than that, it looks fantastic, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be featured here! :)

    2. Hey Lara,
      You are most welcome. Anything I can do to help another self-employed home business owner.

      Fixed that link. That happens sometimes when I copy a link from another post or an email. I fixed all the others, must have missed one. ;-{
