Blogging Tip #8-Create an About Page

When a visitor stops by your site for the first time, they will look over your content and maybe browse around for a little while. If they like what they see, the second thing they will probably look for is something About You or Your Company.

Using an About Page can help convert a new visitor into a regular reader. You don’t have to write a resume or things you feel are too personal, but you do want to let them know a little about Why they should want to come back to your site.

Two types of About Page to consider:

About “me” page. You can tell a short story of how you got started and what lead to you becoming qualified in your field. Tell them how and why you can help them. Give them a reason to come back. This type of page is good if you want to portray a more personal feel to your site. You could even include a picture of yourself.

About “my business” page. Tell them how your business can help them in what they are looking for, describe your business and the benefits it may provide to them. You can list your products and services. They may need something in the future you can supply. Something like this might be used to portray a more professional look and feel to your site.

Of course you can use both types of About Pages if you would like. Some businesses like Consulting, Web Design, Writers and some Entrepreneurs may want to show both the personal touch and professionalism they offer to potential clients.

A good point to remember is to give visitors other options after reading the page. You can put a link to RSS and E-mail subscriptions, your news letter or lead them to your most popular posts.

Just remember that you want to encourage the visitor to become a regular reader of your offerings. The About Page gives you an opportunity to show your expertise and give visitors a reason to want to come back to see you again.
