The Conclusion of the Working Together (Separately) Saga
![]()
Finally, I can say that the Saga of K’s Shop is coming to an End.
Everything has finally settled down to almost normal. The Powder Room is entirely finished (including the toilet). So, there are no elderly women trouncing up and down the stairs to use the family bathroom. But, I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself.
For those of you who have not been following the Epic Story of K’s Transition to Working at Home in the basement and my Working at Home in my Second Floor Office, let me recount a few of the steps we lived through.
Just click on each phase to read the post for each transition in this process.
Phase 1… In August of this year, K found out that the building in which she housed her Beauty Shoppe was being sold. She had maintained her business at the same location for over 20 years and had built up a good client list. Now, it was time for some major decisions about how to stay in business and keep the same cuctomer base.
Phase 2… The real saga began with moving all of her hairdressing equipment from the old shop to the house. The problem was that the contractors hadn’t even started to finish the basement. That meant K had to use the kitchen, temporarily, which led to more than one problem. Not the least of which was…
Phase 3… Coffee. In Phase 2, we had moved everything K needed for her business into the dining room and kitchen. I couldn’t get my coffee without tripping over her customers.
Phase 4… Dealing with the smell of perm solution is not easy. Neither is trying to convince a non-computer saavy person the advantage of a Website or Blog for business. Especially a business like Hair Dressing.
Phase 5… When the contractors finally started to finish the basement, we had a few discussions on how everything should proceed. This is a lesson in resolving an argument, she wins.
Phase 6… With the basement shop almost completed the only complication left to deal with was the customers constantly using the upstairs bathroom. Although it was an inconvience, I worried more that one of the elderly women would fall down the stairs.
All of this leads to the here and now. Everything is finally done and life is slowly returning to normal. She in her basement shop and I in my second floor office.
The Powder Room is finished, no more worries of a stranger walking in while I take a shower. The only thing left in the shop is putting up a divider between the laundry section and the entrance.
I can get my coffee at any time and not trip over a customer. No more arguments over what the contractors are doing. The only time a client comes in the front door is if she is new and has never been here before.
Life is Good.
