This past week has been hectic. Full of sorrow, reflection, decisions, values, uncertainty, and a lot of other feelings that are difficult to describe. Needless to say I thought about a lot of things, one of which was My direction in life and in business.
Now that it is over, I have been doing a lot of reflection on how to best pursue business in the near and long term. It seems I am spending a lot of time writing about and participating in Blogging projects and lost focus a little on the topic of Working at Home on the Internet.
Although, I do run the Working at Home Blog Carnival which features quite a bit of really good tips related to the Business of Working at Home. And every Sunday I present the Weekly Helpful Reads series which are articles I have found while surfing the Internet that may help the Home Business Entrepreneur a little in their quest for success.
Just yesterday, I called for anyone who Works at Home to submit their Business Profile to have it Featured here. I didn’t expect an overwhelming response, but I thought some Entrepreneur would like a little extra exposure for their business. And Yes, I did consider that it could help add a little to my Working at Home Image while helping others in their Business. I still think I may be drifting a little too far from the topic and the purpose of this Blog.
This realization was brought on mostly by monitoring Google Alerts for Working at Home. I have had the Alert delivered to my E-mail for 6-7 months and my page finally started showing up about 2 months ago. What a great feeling, being noticed by Google. Well, about 2 weeks ago, I almost disappeared. Nothing showed in the alerts for anything I had written except the Carnivals.
What does this tell me? That I may be on the verge of losing direction. This Blog was started to keep track of my endeavours in trying to start a Work at Home Business on the Internet and to pass on any information to others wanting to start a Home Business. Although I am trying to do this through Blogging and maintaining a Website using affiliates and advertising, this is not the only approach possible. It is only One Approach.
My intent is to focus more on ANY type of Home Business and how to utilize the Internet to help improve prospects for the Self Employed Home Business Entrepreneur. Full-time, Part-time, Tele-commuter, Start-up, anyone who Works at Home and uses the Internet.
Any suggestions?

Hey Joe,
Within the next month, I’ll want to take you up on your promo offer. Not yet, though. Doing it now would be like opening a supermarket with a couple of loaves of bread.

Ok, I give up. Where did you hide your trackback URL?

Hey Carolyn,
A company like yours is exactly what I want to promote. A good person with a good idea willing to work at it through thick and thin.
Take your time, but let me know as soon as you are ready. You may even be the First…
Joe
BTW, with WP, you set trackbacks in your Admin page, then it is done automatically.
Just make sure to use the exact post URI when you are linking.

Joe – As someone who is in a similar niche, I can understand how easy it is to lose focus. I’ve had to make sure not to stray to far off topic. One thing I found, based on reader feedback, is that my motivation and inspirational stuff is more popular than the nitty-gritty details. When I first started, I really would have thought it to be the other way around. But it makes sense.
A blog, just like any business, evolves over time. I’ve started and run several businesses and they all looked very different towards the end than they did at the beginning.
As for direction, I’m a big believer in back-end stuff. Yaro wrote a great post on it recently.
FWIW – I always find great content here. And unless you too start writing about Britney and Paris, I’ll continue to be a subscriber

I have an admin page for trackbacks? Gotta go look.

No! I know what you’re talking about! What I wanted to know is where is YOUR trackback URI? Didn’t it used to be here somewhere? If you feel like making this easy for me, just tell me if its something like “wp-trackback.php?p=XXXX”

Hey Tony,
I wrote a quite lenghty response, but it got lost somewhere. I sure hope I am not having more Akismet problems.
Anyway, thanks for the vote of confidence, I’m just worring about going too far off track.
And, not to worry about Britney or Paris, that’s the Celeblog’s job, you won’t see it here.

Carolyn, I never had a trackback link on this (WP) blog. I did have one on the old Blogger Blog of the same name.
Sorry,
Joe

Thanks Joe. No, I wanted a trackback; it’s such a kick to send them. Oh, well, you must settle for the links. I took the liberty of doing a little WAH PR.
And, I might not be your first promotion, but I’ll be one of them.
Input by Carolyn Manning | December 20, 2006 @ 10:52 pm
Carolyn, I thought about that after the fact. Sorry.
Maybe there is a plugin to put trackbacks at the end of posts, I will look around for one.
Until then, I’ll just have to live with actual links.
Joe
Just let me know when you’re ready, you may yet be the first…

Google ‘trackback plugins’. Several are listed and you’ll likely find something that suits my fancy. Oh, I meant your fancy.

Hey Carolyn,
You know trackback links on posts were never a priority until you brought it to my attention. Now, I have to do something about it…
