How to Fix the Next and Previous Pages in Andreas04 2.0
![]()
Small things probably bother me more than some of the Major Malfunctions while working on the internet. Specifically, navigation of a site, my site.
The Problem
The Next and Previous Page links at the bottom of the post always bothered me. If you tried to navigate from the landing page to the previous page, the link was marked “Next”. Once you were there, the navigation was “Previous”, which took you back to the landing page and “Next” which took you to the earlier pages.
To me, that was totally bass akwards. “Previous” to me means “earlier entries” and “Next” means “newer entries”.
I tried to change it around by renaming the links, which was fine as far as it went. Both worked, so when you clicked “earlier entries” you went to the previous pages and when you clicked “newer entries” you got the newer entries. That still left me with the dilemma of the links being in the wrong place for aesthetics. Newer was on the left and earlier was on the right. Still backwards to the eye, but at least it they would get you where you wanted to go.
The Fix
Where you see this statement
(div style=”margin: 10px 0 10px 0″)
Replace this
(?php posts_nav_link(’ &# 8212; ‘, __(’& la quo ; Previous’), __(’Next & ra quo ;’)); ?)
With this
(?php next_posts_link(’& la quo ; Earlier Entries’) ?) (?php previous_posts_link(’ — Newer Entries & ra quo ;’) ?)
I have replaced all of the brackets with (). Make sure to take note of where they are in the original statement and use them in the same place in the new statement. And watch the spacing within such as & la quo, there are no spaces in the real statement. They were used in order to show the terms.
Not to worry, the next and previous work on the single pages as is.
