One of the Best Examples of Community in Blogging is Where is Basil?  the Brain Child of Ben Yoskovitz.

It was born out of a spoof contest in the comments section of an Open Mic Night at Successful Blog.  I don’t even remember what the actual contest was for or about, but it progressed enough that there are now 40 “Winners” and more are joining in all the time.

The prize is a Visit from Basil the Code-Writing Donkey.  He brings along a 3 DVD set of John Cleese’s Fawlty Towers.  In keeping with the community effort, he carries a package of souvenirs from all of the places he has visited so far.  Each person who participates also includes a small personal touch for the next person on the list.

Below is a list of people and where they’re from, who have participated so far.  (I was going to tell what souvenirs they sent, but why spoil the fun?)

Terry (aka: Starbucker), Connecticut, USA - visited!

Liz Strauss (Successful Blog), Chicago, Illinois, USA - visited!

Chris Cree (http://chriscree.net/), Savannah, Georgia, USA - visited!

Easton Ellsworth (http://www.businessblogwire.com/), Mesa, Arizona, USA - visited!

Bill and Kathee Austin (http://blogofthedayawards.blogspot.com/), Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - visited!

Leah Maclean (http://www.workingsolo.com.au/), Arncliffe, Australia — visited!

Derek Andrews (http://www.seafoamwoodturning.com/TheToolrest/), River John, Nova Scotia, Canada - visited!

Joe Hauckes (http://www.workingathomeinternet.com/WP), Clifton Heights, Pennsylvania, USA - Basil’s there now!

Eugene Filimon (http://www.meliodex.com/), Minsk, Belarus

As you may have noticed, Basil is here in Clifton Heights, Pa USA right now (I guess I should tell Ben) and we are having a great time showing that Ole Donkey around.  Eugene, you are going to have your hands full with this guy, let me tell you.

To read about the Adventure Basil is having here, to see where he as been or to follow him on his journey, go to his Blog Where is Basil?

Better yet, when you are there, get on the List to join in on the fun.
