Residuals of Social Bookmarking

When I talked to Ben Yoskovitz about a week ago on one of the Open Comments Nights that Liz Strauss has on Tuesdays, the subject of an article he wrote being Dugg came up.

He mentioned that he had Thousands of Additional Pageviews and a corresponding amount of RSS Subscriptions from that post. But he expected it to drop off fairly quickly. I told him that I got quite a few additional PV’s and Subs from a link he had to my Blog in his article as well. I tried to cheer him up a little by telling him that there should be some residual readers returning from the influx.

I’m not sure what Ben’s numbers turned out being, but if they are anything like mine, he may be as happy about the result as I am.

This is a screen shot of my Statcounter and FeedBurner stats for that time frame up until yesterday.

It is a little hard to tell from the caption, but the Statcounter (on the left) shows that the resulting Vistits and PageViews are staying at a higher level than prior to the Digg Spike. On average the wave is continuing at about 30% above the prior level. More or less like a High Tide coming in.

The FeedBurner shot (right) shows that even though the level of subscriptions was on the rise, when things settled after the Spike, the number is quite a bit higher than previously. Again about 30%.

I think this shows the value of Social Bookmarking, and being linked to someone who is Dugg. The more eyes that see your work, the better. There will be some that like what you write and return. Possibly even become part of your community.

This is a way to have more people see you and just maybe, stick around.

Have you seen similar results from Social Bookmarking? Do you think that type service helps your numbers?
