Life sure has been different since K. started running her Business from Home.
I already mentioned the Coffee thing. I didn’t happen to mention the SMELL thing, did I? Well, since the kitchen is where kitchens go, in the living area of the house, and Hair Dye and Perm Solution STINKS… Need I say more?
I can’t wait until the contractors show up and start finishing the basement “Hair Salon”. They are supposed to install a ventilation system which should help with the stentch.
I can deal with the “mature” women customers that she has, I do know most of them anyway. But they are getting to the stage of life where they may not be able to get to the new location (our house). So, I breached the subject of expanding her customer base last night. I mentioned to her how starting something online might help.Â
Have you ever tried to explain the advantages of having a Blog or Website to someone that thinks E-mail is just for sending and forwarding things to friends? I told K that I would set up either one for her, but I recommended a Blog. She has always been against having a Website. And she thinks a Blog is something more akin to MySpace than a business tool. She started with the “I’m not putting personal things on the web”.
I did ask her what she thought I used for business and she really had no idea. She thinks I just type things on the internet and that’s how I make money. Although partially true, I tried to give her a little more insight into the processes involved. I’m not going to go into the whole conversation now, but I do have her thinking about it.
I know that I shouldn’t really get involved in her business at all. I don’t say or do anything with the way she runs things. I don’t really complain too much about the inconvience of having customers all over the house (including the upstairs bathroom). I’ll wait patiently until the Basement is finished and I’ll have more freedom to traverse everything above.
I think it’s a good idea for her to start a blog showing business hours, contact information etc. She could also have advertisements for hair products and the like on the site for additional income.
