The First Step… Moving Her Shoppe

yin yang.jpg

On August 22 I told you that K. is closing her Beauty Shoppe and will be moving the business into the basement of the house. Well, tomorrow (Sunday) is the day.

We will be moving all of her equipment from the old location into the Garage. Yep, you read that right, Garage. The contractors haven’t even started the redesign of the Basement. Since most of her clients are, let’s say, old enough to be my mother, she won’t be setting up shop in the garage, but using it for storage.

Where you may ask will she be Cutting Hair, Doing Permanents, Dying Hair etc? In the Kitchen. Hair Dryers in the Dining Room, and needless to say the Living Room will be a Waiting Area.

I guess that means during her business hours I will be relegated to the upstairs. That’s no bad in and of itself, that’s where my room/office is anyway. But, I like the freedom to go into the kitchen and get a cup of coffee, look in the frig for a snack, whatever.

Sometimes, I like to just be able to stay in whatever I happen to be wearing (or not wearing) until I finish prep for my work before I take a shower. Speaking of which, I won’t be able to take a shower when I want, it will have to be done before or after her work hours, she uses a lot of hot water washing hair.

I’m not sure when she has her first appointment scheduled, probably next Wednesday. Between now and then I’m sure I’ll be called upon to help move things around and actually be a part of putting our lives in disarray.

As I said in the introductory post, this will be an Ongoing Adventure so, Stay Tuned.

Part of the Working Together (Separately) series

Update: The property owner changed the locks this afternoon. Right now, there is no way to get any equipment out of the building. I think it’s time to get lawyers involved!!!

[...] Phase 2… The real saga began with moving all of her hairdressing equipment from the old shop to the house. The problem was that the contractors hadn’t even started to finish the basement. That meant K had to use the kitchen, temporarily, which led to more than one problem. Not the least of which was… [...]
