Working at Home on the Internet

Helping You Run an Internet Home Business

Would You Read Your Own Blog?

magnigying glass.jpg

That is a question I have asked myself quite a bit lately. Sometimes I think that my writing ability (or lack thereof) gets in the way of what I know and try to share with others in the same situation. I always edit and rewrite posts I feel are not up to the level of what I read on a daily basis.

So I came up with a list of questions I ask myself regarding this Blog and how it is presented:

~~ Would I read my own Blog if I were surfing around looking for information on Working at Home on the Internet?

~~ If someone were looking for information in my niche, do I do a good job in presenting the right information?

~~ Can people find something interesting here and want to come back for more?

~~ Is there anything that should be here that is not?

~~ Are there things here that shouldn’t be?

~~ Is it easy to read?

~~ Is it easy to navigate?

~~ Does it fit my expectations and how I like to read a Blog?

~~ Am I unique in my presentation?

On some days the answers will not be the same as on others. Once in a while I write something I am really proud of and hope people enjoy what I have presented. Other times it is a struggle just to get a post written. I try to get all the answers right everyday, but of course I can’t. But if I get the majority of them in the positive mode, I may just end up getting this right.

Do you have a set of questions you ask yourself? Are there questions I should be asking that I haven’t?

    1. Sometimes I wonder if the stuff I write about is common knowledge or really easy or something (amongst JavaScript programmers, of course :) ).. since I know everything I write about, it’s hard to judge what the content is like to others. It’s also hard to tell how clearly I express concepts, because to me everything is clear from the start.

It’s a good idea to try to look at your work through the eyes of an outsider, but in the end you’re always stuck looking through your own.

    2. Hey Jesse,

I try to be helpful to readers that are new to the subject of working at home as well as people who have been at it for a while.

That’s why I ask myself if I would read it from different perspectives.

I fugure if I wouldn’t read it, why would others. But you’re right, we are stuck looking through our own eyes in the end.

    3. The only question I ask myself is “What in the heck am I going to write about today?” lol :)

Sometimes when I am going through the archives I will come across older posts that always get me thinking things like, “Did I really write THAT?” lol :)

    4. Hey Angela,

I ask that same question every day. I usually come up with something, not always what I intended, but something. ;-)

One good thing about looking in the archives, I can actually see that I have improved at least a little. :-)
