Google Apps for Your Domain Available
 
As of today, Google is offering a free service to host your domain called Google Apps for your Domain. With your Google Account (required, but free) you can get all of the regular services such as Gmail, online calendar, and instant messaging.  Using your domain name rather than an @gmail address is one of the advantages not found with other free services.
You get a Page Creator to set up your own Webpage, with certain restrictions. It will be Ad supported. In other words, Google or any third party they deem fitting will be displayed on your page. They pick ALL positioning of their Ads. There is no revenue sharing, Google gets the profits. They will put a Google Search where they think it will work, but at least you can share the income (only) from that if you already have an AdSense account.
They determine where your content is placed, within their templates. You can use advertisements of your choosing in your portion of the alloted space, as long as it doesn’t differ from their Terms of Service. They only control you have of your own webpage is through an Administration site that is mostly restricted to only your own content.
So far, the only application I can find for this service is still in Beta, which was released in February to a few Colleges and Universities. It is difficult to find even within your Google account, you have to look in Bussiness Apps at the bottom of the page and you should find it at the end of the list of Apps.
My biggest question is:Â If you own your own domain already, why bother with a free hosting service that can control all of your advertising?
Google should be releasing a Paid Hosting Service for Business by the end of the year.
