A Short List of Lists

 list.jpg

Again, Darren Rowse has a Group Writing Project going, this one is about Lists.  I think the term fits different senerios.  In his introductory post, Darren has 2 different lists.  One is a List of Prizes and the Second is a List of Requirements on Participation.

I see lists just about every day while reading the various blogs in my Favorites List.  Every one was found before the announcement, so I doubt any will be on the List of Participants.

Here is my List of Blogs with recent posts containing Lists:

~~ Smiley Cat has a list of 5 Free Web Directories You Should Submit Your Site To.  It is a good list and even has numbers.

~~ Business BlogWire has a list of 5 Reasons to Preschedule Your Posts (and 5 Reasons Not To).  I guess 5 is a Good Number for Lists.

~~ I Got News For You has a list of 5 ways on How To Extend the Shelf Life of a Blog Post Through Linking.  Nice picture of Spam (the canned meat, not the bad kind).

~~ cre8d design blog has a list of of 21 skills planned for an upcoming screencast.  She breaks from 5 things on lists big time.

~~ Ramblings From a Glass Half Full has a list of The 10 Secrets To Our Success.  The only problem is he has 29 things on his list.

Ok, that was 5 of the Numbered Type of Lists (without numbers).  There are other types as well, such as when Successful Blog presents This Weeks SOB Awards (this is week 42) to Successful and Outstanding Bloggers.  Or my Weekly Helpful Reads which is a list of articles I found on the Internet regarding Working at Home.

Then there are things like this Blog Carnival on Creating a Better Life, although not technically a list, it does list articles from other Blogs in the same genre.

This did start out mostly as a tongue-in-cheek post, but it does show one thing.  There are a Lot of Lists around.  I think the reason for this is because it is an easy way to get a point across and give good information in a point by point manner.

I know you use Lists, share with us the Reasons behind it.

Hey Joe — lists are effective for getting points across.

I wasn’t always an avid list writer, I’m not sure it’s totally my style. I tend to ramble. But it’s forced me to structure my thoughts more clearly and simply, which I think everyone would agree is a good thing.

I’m definitely going to participate in Darren’s Writing Project. I’m sure he’ll get a TON of submissions since he’s got nice prizes and it’s a fairly easy category. Smart on his part…

      Hey Ben,

I have been using lists for a while without realizing it for a while now. Actually I knew it, but didn\’t publish them as lists.

As far as the writing project, I think it is going to get a lot of response. I really didn\’t do it for the possibility of a prize, more for the exposure and the fun of it.

Send me a link to your post when it\’s written.

      Hey MamaDuck,

Yeah, I thought a little List Love mixed with a little Link Love would be nice.

I’ll be over in a little bit to see your list too.

Joe, I obviously have a problem with numbers – and I’ve since expanded my list of 10 to about 34! I agree with you and Ben on this – lists are a pretty good way of organizing and presenting thoughts. All the best.

      Hey Starbucker,

I actually had to count my own list to see how many there were (5) but if you count the intro and closing, there were actually 10.

So who said counting counted for a writer anyway? ;-)

A list of lists with links. It’s a tongue twister!

      Hey Jersey Girl,

I like alliteration, it makes one say things like:

Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers. A peck of pickled peppers did Peter Piper pick. If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers, how many pickled peppers did Peter Piper pick?

Thanks for stopping by, did you do a list for the project?

      Hey Caryn,
That was the main reason for using them, the links all contain good ideas.
      Thanks for stopping by.
