How Do I Read My Readers?
Is it just me?
When I write a post, I usually have an idea of what I think could result in further conversation in comments. I usually try to pick a subject or question that has more answers than I can provide, to allow for commenting and participation in a conversation. I even ask questions and request input from everyone who visits.
As I mentioned in a post just recently, I have seen an increase in comments since moving to my own Domain. I attribute this mostly to the ease which the use of WordPress affords to commenting.
What baffels me is when I think the topic is really something that people will respond to, I get nothing. For instance, The post regarding Sean Gum last week. I have gotten quite a few comments and E-mails from people who had dealings with him and his company MagMoney on previous posts and still do. On this most recent post, nothing. I thought I would get at least a “yeah, I got that too” type comment.
Then there are the type of posts that I think are not very interesting or just plain silly and don’t expect any response. Something like the True Story of Basil the Code-Writing Donkey (sorry, Ben). These seem to be the type of thing where I get the Best Response.
I’m not sure where this is leading except that maybe I don’t know how to Read my Readers. It’s possible that I am asking the wrong questions or presenting the wrong information. I would like to know how to find out what information people want and need to be posted to best serve the purpose of this Blog; poviding Advice, Tips, Links and Information to the Work at Home Business Person.
Any Suggestions?

No hard feelings Joe. I don’t really have an answer for you either.
Maybe Basil’s so cool he just inspires commenting? I’m guessing it’s because commenting on something silly like Basil is easy; commenting on something with real depth to it requires more thought.
And I know exactly what you mean. I wrote a post titled “7 Words You Should Never Say as an Entrepreneur.” I thought it would encourage a lot more commenting - people suggesting their own words, talking about the ones I picked. It got a couple comments, but not much. Of course I’m still on Blogger too, which sucks donkey…wait a second…I won’t use that phrasing anymore, it hits too close to home.
I do think more people should leave more comments in general though. It’s of value to everyone involved - blogger and reader.

Hey Ben,
I think you’re right about people commenting on easy things that don’t require much thought.
As far as Blogger, I think you know my feelings on that. If not just read through the Blogger or Rants Categories.
I think as more people get into blogging and find the Value in Getting comments, they may start Leaving some…
