Questions about Time/Date and RSS Setup
Maybe I’m just too picky, but I Want Things the Way I Want Them. If something should work and it doesn’t I get a little upset, especially when I put time, money and effort into something. I don’t think it is asking too much to have a RSS Feed or the Time/Date on a post to work.
I have always had my RSS Feed set to show a FULL Feed on feedburner or any other service that someone subscribes to. I realize that not everyone who reads my articles has the time to physically click on my site. That is why they use RSS, so they can view different posts from different Bloggers all in one place.
I have set the Feeds on WP to show the FULL Post, but on FeedBurner it only gives a partial teaser to the Subscriber. I checked the Source Code and it shows that I am feeding only a partial post on ALL RSS Feeds. I tried to re-enter the information on WP and Save etc, and still I am sending a Partial. I have no idea how to fix this problem at this point.
The other problem I am having is with the Time/Date on posts. As before I have always had that information on each post, just because I like it that way. I checked in the Edit Themes and the Manage Files Templates and as far as I can tell the Time/Date is supposed to show in the Foot of Each Post right before Posted by Joe.
I did find out that Part of the date had !– date stuff – in brackets, and removed the hidden date brackets to make it viewable. Still nothing shows. I don’t know enough about CSS to know if anything is missing, or if the calls for the information are right to go any further without help.
Maybe I’m just bing picky, or hardheaded, but I Want Things the Way I Want Them, especially if they are already there. These are Not Plug-Ins, they are Part of WordPress.
Update:Â I found a way to show the Date and Time on Posts and Comments.
In order to have the date and time show on the Whole of the “Index” page, go into the Presentation Editor, Main Index and look for the “date” call-up and Delete the !– “date stuff” — enclosure (Do Not Delete the”Date Stuff” just the Enclosure) including the hyphens and the less than/greater than brackets. Then, Either Delete (lessthan)span(greaterthan) and the closure (/span) or Enclose the spans with (lessthan)!– (/)span –>
Make sure you do the same thing on the Page editor so that when an individual page is called up, the Time/Date info will show.
To include Time/Date in the Comments field, just bring up the Comments Editor in the same Theme Editor and Delete the (lessthan)!– and the –> from the date field. Do Not remove anything BUT the Enclosures.
It works, just look at the bottom of the post. I hope I was clear enough, if not please say so and I will try to explain it a little better.

Hey
Found your site while doing a search on this theme to see who else uses it
It’s almost like seeing someone elses words on “my” site
You have great taste!

Hey Breigh,
Thanks for stopping by.
I did use Blogger for months but got tired of the problems there, so I went with WP.
This was actually my first choice, but I had some difficulty uploading it to my server. I’m glad I finally got that resolved.
Stop by anytime, you may be able to clear up some questions I have about this template.

Hey, Joe. I’ve been getting your complete posts through my feed in Bloglines all along. Do you think it might be some setting in whatever reader you are using?
Don’t know if you’ve done some changes to the dates, but The date & time show in the footer now in FF (didn’t much pay attention to them before.
The post footer shows this (in FF) on the left side of the footer:
June 30th, 2006 at 01:15pm
And this on the right side of the footer:

Hey Chris,
I just updated the post, I found a way for it to show when I look at it.
I use IE6 and the date never showed, I tweaked and now it does. I just made the adjustments withing the hour (6:00-7:00pm) so you may have seen it right after I fixed it???
As long as it works, right…
As far as the RSS is concerned, I looked at it through FeedBurner. When I had the Blogger Blog, it showed the full feed, now it just shows a “teaser”.
As you already know, It Will Take Time… I keep telling myself that, just so I feel better. LOL
Joe
BTW, watch out, tomorrow is Blog-Tipping Day.

AH - I see the reason for no navigation .. (looking at Breigh’s site) .. you removed the creator’s name for your own and removed the navigation code. Now that you know that it is available .. try downloading the template again and copy the text from the original source index.php file to fit!
I like this design actually. Reminds me of an upgrade to my first version that I have called “sixties” (it was blue, but I changed the colors to the same you are using here pretty much)

PS: regarding Feedburner .. all you have to do is log in to your account at http://feedburner.com and
1) click on MY FEEDS
2) click on your feed title
3) click on OPTIMIZE tab
4) click on SUMMARY BURNER in sidebar
5)and then deactivate.
Then - full feed according to what you have in your Wordpress OPTIONS / READING section.

Hey HART,
I used the code you sent in the email and it works just fine. The new nav shows at the bottom of the front page, right above the footer.
I will try the change with FeedBurner, I would like to use full feeds, just because I like it that way.
Thanks for all your help,
Joe

Hey HART,
I did try going into FeedBurner and found out that the Summary Burner is already Inactive. The settings in WP are for Full Feeds.
And I’m still getting partial feeds.
I have no idea what the problem is.

Joe - Mystery solved. You are shooting out full feeds. The only problem is - you are not linked to this blog, but your other blogspot - sort of - … (You can tell in Bloglines in the Header)
EG - you have here….
http://feeds.feedburner.com/WorkingatHomeontheInternet
but in my bloglines I am getting
http://feeds.feedburner.com/WorkingAtHomeontheInternet
(emphasis on capital “A”)

PS what you need is that feedburner plugin and redirect the xml feed from ..
http://workingathomeinternet.com/WP/feed/
directly into your feedburner.
You can get the plugin ..here

Hey HART,
I checked both links you gave and I show teasers on both links. No full feeds showing at all, maybe it’s my browser or something.
I’ll check out the plug=in you suggested and see what that is about.
Thanks,
Joe
