Helping You Run an Internet Home Business

Update on the Moving Process

So far, since I moved in, I have changed the Background of the Header, the Type Style and Color of the Main Title and the Blurb.  I also softened the Borders around the Head, Main Body and the Sidebar and it’s Content.

They were pretty simple, just locate the appropriate portion of the style sheet and experiment with various colors and add the “italics” for the title.

Putting in the links for the BlogRoll, Forums and E-Books as well as the Category List was even easier.

There are still a couple of things that I want to change in the Template, but I can’t figure out how…

I want to enlarge the Post Title and put a little space between Author/Categories and the Main Body.  Not much but a little space so it doesn’t look like they are “connected at the hip”. I have tried changing the font from 12px to 112px on the Story Title as an experiment and also tried to 120%.  This did work on the Main Title, but not on the Story Title.  I even tried combining that change with a change of % in H2.

Nothing seems to work…  I did try changing the font in the “pre” section as well.  That DOES change the Title, AND EVERY LINK on the Blog.

This is not to mention that I also want to change those stupid quotes at the top of either Sidebar to One Of My Own Stupid Quotes.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    1. I had to go into a file named theloop.php in my theme folder to make those kinds of changes. I still don’t have everything exactly the way I want it yet, but the beauty is that I can keep refining it as I go along.

    2. Hey Chris,
Thanks, but I don’t haven’t found that one yet. I guess I have to start reading all the code one line at a time.
I know that if you change something in one line, you may need to change it in another 2 or 3 to get it to work.
I like following you in the moving process, you pass on the information so freely, and help in any way you can. If everybody was like you, more people would probably move to their own domain sooner rather than later.
      Thanks,
      Joe
ps. Are you going to go to Liz’s tonight? Stupid question, huh?

    3. Hey Joe,

right over there in your new Home…I just LIKE it here. Your page has a good segmentation. Nothing makes me nervous ( I get easily irritated…) and I appreciate that.
BTW, on my screen there are no stupid quotes or may be you’ve already managed it.

      The Best.

    4. Hey Tania from Germany,

Were you looking at the “Sand” page or the “Silver” page?
I was having too many problems managing the “sand” one, it kept blowing around and I couldn’t control how it looked.

That’s why I changed to the “silver” look, I can actually find where things are and do something with them.
I had to ask, because the comments (so far)don’t show a time of posting.

Let me know, that way I will know ;-)

    5. Hey Joe,

I guess I was looking and still am looking at “silver”page. It’s the one where the post is on two thirds of the page on the left side. The side-bar is on the one third on the right side. No silly quotes there. It’s all proper…archives, recent, links, categories.

#3 comment is sent approx. 2p.m. your time.
This one is submitted 9p.m. your time.
      I, too, miss the timestamps.

      Hope this answers your question.

    6. Hey Tania from Germany, (I can’t help myself)
I wasn’t sure which page you were viewing, right around that time, I had changed templates.
I like this one much better, I think it is smoother.
It is nice and clean, and I think, easy to view.
I’m not sure if I can get time stamps on the comments, but I will look for a way.
