Working at Home on the Internet

Helping You Run an Internet Home Business

Number One on WP

This is the first post on WP just to see how it works. I imported all the posts and comments from Blogger, they all seem to be there. I am not too sure about the Template yet. I still have to figure out how to get AdSense on and deal with the pre-fab links etc. I also have to find out why, in the middle of typing, the whole form changed.

So much to learn and this is only the beginning.

I also would rather not have the .com/WP but I think that is the only way to do it unless I do a /blog thing.

    1. Hi Joe,

I wonder if you’ll get this… it looks like I’m the first to comment at the new home! :)

You can upload wordpress to your website’s root directory (if your host will allow it), and then you won’t need /WP or /blog, or anything… or you can set up a redirect page, so that if people go to the url workingathomeinternet.com, they will be sent to the WP directory. If your host supports PHP, it only takes a small amount of code.

Let me know if you need help with this. I’d be happy to.

    2. Hey Lyman,

Welcome to my new home, sit down, put your feet up, relax.

It seems you found it through the link on the Blogger Blog, so it seems to work ok. Maybe I don’t have to change any code.

The WP thing may just be for admin purposes? Still have a lot to learn about this wordpress setup.

Thanks for the offer, I may just take you up on it.

    3. Hey Lyman,
If you happen to come back, I put a redirect on to the /WP and it seems to work fine.

AND Now I am using my own E-mail address joe@workingathomeinternet.com instead of the old stand-by Hotmail.

The more I experiment and learn, the better I like this setup. Now I have to find a way to access the template to add revenue getters.

    4. I like the new look, Joe, and once you get familiar with Wordpress I’m sure you’ll like it much better than blogger. Getting your own domain and controlling your complete system is the only way to go if you’re going to be serious, as far as I’m concerned.

Once you get beyond the initial curve there’s no going back. Have fun!

    5. Hey DavidC,
Thanks, I like the look for the most part, but, I found another theme (Andreas04) that I can’t get to install. I get it to the right file on the server but it says it can’t find the style sheet.

As far as I know I uploaded everything I got for it, and put them in the right folders and files.

I guess it is that curve you are talking about, huh? ;-)

    6. AND I have to figure out how to set the time to EDT. I wrote the comment at 5:32pm and it shows 9:32pm

      Oh, well…

Just another learning experience, good thing K went on vacay with her girlfriends, she doesn’t have to listen to what I say to the computer… ;-)

    7. Joe,

      Congratulations on your new home!

With regard to the redirecting the old blogger blog, I don’t know of an easy way to do that. But if you take a look at , you’ll see how I did it when I moved my success quotes blog to a new domain.

In my version of WordPress, the time zone is set under Options/General.

And I agree with DavidC 100%. You are going to love all that you can do with your own domain and with WordPress once you get more familiar… You will have fun!

    8. Hey Lyman,

I have heard that you can put redirects somewhere, but I can’t remember where I heard it. I’ll check out your quotes blog, to see what you did.

I did figure out the time thing, all I had to do was look…

I am having fun, I’m more worried about losing readers than anything else, hence the need for the redirect.
